Artist Statement: Almost Savage

Transformation, a marked change. This happens when water changes from solid to liquid to evaporation. Water is the guiding force in this body of work. For the past year 2020 I have been thinking a lot about change and how that marks you as an individual. How to embrace it, push away the fear and let it come to you.

These images are reflections of these states of mind. Transformations that might occur internally. How do we deal with negative and positive shifts of energy, circumstances and curves? You need tranquillity, you need to be grounded back into what is essential. So many games are played with our minds, I want this work to entice you to get yourself back into balance. Find the humanity and natural within ourselves.

Nature has always played an important role in my work. I think it is essential as it gives me peace and makes me see the moment. It puts my mind into perspective when I realize how small I am in the grand landscape. Think it is also necessary as humans for us to look closer into our environment when things become uneasy. There you will always find harmony.
